House cleaning in Old Town

Old Town cleaning for houses with a bit of history.

Federal-era brick houses off King Street, and the newer condos toward Carlyle. Same flat pricing, same checklist, very different buildings.

Old Town is the only place we work where the houses regularly predate the country. Brick, narrow frontage, three storeys, floors that slope, staircases you turn sideways on, and fireplaces in rooms that no longer use them. They are lovely and they are fiddly: the dust sits on mantels, in fireplace surrounds, on deep window reveals and along skirting that has been painted over for two centuries.

Toward Carlyle and the waterfront the stock flips entirely to modern condos with lifts and garages. Those clean like any new flat. Both are priced the same way, by bedrooms and bathrooms, with the number on screen before you book.

When to book it

Old floors, fireplaces and where to park

Uneven original floors are the norm here and they want a damp mop rather than a wet one, worked with the boards. Disused fireplaces are the detail most cleaners skip: the surround and hearth collect a fine grit that comes back if only the mantel is wiped, so both are done. Deep window reveals and interior shutters, which are common in these houses, get wiped rather than dusted.

Parking in Old Town is genuinely difficult, more so than anywhere else we serve, and the cobbled blocks near the water are worse. It does not change your price. If your house has a rear alley space or a permit you can leave out, say so in the notes and it buys the cleaner time in your home rather than circling the block.

The checklist

What a standard clean covers

Every visit, every room, the same list. Mantels, hearths, reveals and shutters are part of it in these houses.

  • Kitchen

Counters, backsplash and sink scrubbed. Outside of every appliance. Cabinet fronts wiped. Floor washed by hand at the edges.

  • Bathrooms

Tub, shower, tile and grout line scrubbed. Toilet inside and out. Mirrors and fixtures polished streak free.

  • Bedrooms

Beds made with hotel corners. Surfaces dusted top to bottom. Under accessible furniture vacuumed.

  • Living areas

Dusted high to low, including sills, baseboards, blinds and switch plates. Upholstery vacuumed.

  • Floors throughout

Vacuumed and mopped, with corners and edges done by hand instead of a machine pass.

  • Finish

Trash out, fresh liners, and a photo of every room sent to you before your cleaner leaves.

Recurring visits start at $120 for a one bed, one bath every two weeks. See the full price table on the home page.

Questions about this clean

Straight answers.

Our floors are original and uneven. Is that a problem?

No. They get a damp mop worked with the boards, never wet and never steam. Tell us about any rooms with gaps or loose boards and the cleaner adjusts.

Do you clean fireplaces we do not use?

The surround and hearth, yes. We do not clean flues or chimneys, which is a job for a sweep, but the part of it that sits in your room is on the list.

Is parking going to be an issue?

Often, and it never changes your price. A rear alley space or a visitor permit helps, so mention either in the notes.
